Public health expert Prof. Gabi Barbash outlines the pandemic’s many unknowns: How many people are asymptomatic and yet spreading the virus? Why do some patients have mild symptoms, while others become severely ill? Are recovered patients with coronavirus antibodies now immune?
Prof. Barbash also discusses the lessons learned, and implemented in Israel, from watching how other countries handled COVID: We must act quickly to control the spread or healthcare systems become quickly overwhelmed; closures and stay-at-home approaches do help contain COVID; and testing is paramount for reopening the economy. He also presents graphs showing Israel’s response from the time coronavirus appeared in the country in late February, brought by passengers from the Diamond Princess, through the virus-reduction results of control measures.
